The NetVu Observer Free App is available on the App Store.

Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 5.0 or later.

Server List
 
Tap NetVu ObserVer Free App from the device home screen to open the App.

This will access the Main Menu (Server List) of the NetVu Observer Free App and display a list of existing Servers that have been added.
 
There are a number of demonstration Servers already included in the Server list on installation.

From the Main Menu (Server List), image above, tap EXISTING SERVER from the Server List.

This will now start streaming Live video from the Server.

Tapping the image will switch between NORMAL and FULL SCREEN display mode. Rotating the device will also rotate the video so it displays horizontally.

While viewing video from an existing server, SELECT THE ELLIPSIS […] button on the lower right to bring up the current camera Option page (see previous image).

The first field (with a right pointing arrow) shows the camera currently selected.

Tap this to bring up a list of Cameras on the current Server.

Telemetry Control

Pan & Tilt    

Functional PTZ cameras will have a JOYSTICK ICON in the lower right hand side of the video.

The telemetry can be controlled by the following actions on the live camera video:

PINCH (two fingers) to zoom in or out

SWIPE (one finger) to pan or tilt

The display of Telemetry actions can be enabled/disabled from the Settings menu.

From the Main Menu (Server List) tap the [+] button (top right of the screen).

 

This will bring up the above options.

Tap CREATE SERVER to bring up the New Site page.

ENTER A NAME (any), IP address or DNS name, Port (default 80), USERNAME and PASSWORD of the new Server.

The Live Stream settings control the values for this Server, and do not need to be modified at this stage.

Details of these settings can be found in the Settings section of this manual.

- To save the details and add the new Server to the Server List, tap SAVE at top right of the screen.

- To discard the details and return to the Server List without adding the new Server, tap CANCEL at the top left of the screen.

 

 

     
 
Add a new Server by searching the network

This option will search for NetVu Connected Servers on the devices network. Servers are auto detected on the local network using MDNS, for this features to function there are a number of requirements:

- The NetVu Connected Server must support auto detection. This feature was introduced to the NetVu Connected Servers in version 8.0.0.1 (8 branch) on the 20th of October 2010. The software version can be found in the webpages of the DVR.

- The local network must support MDNS.

- Only NetVu Connected servers on the local network can be detected.

From the Main Menu (Server List) tap the [+] button (top right of screen).

 
This will bring up the options in the above image.

Tap SEARCH FOR LOCAL SERVERS. This will bring up a list of Servers available on the network.

Tap A SERVER FROM THE LIST, which will open up the New Site page with the details of the Server automatically populated.

To save the details and add the new Server to the Server List, tap SAVE (top right of the screen(.

To discard the details and return to the return to the Server List without adding the new Server, tap CANCEL (top left of the screen).

Select EDIT (top left of the Main Menu (Server List) screen).
 

The Server List is now in editing mode.

Tap the NAME OF THE SERVER that needs to be edited. This will open the Edit screen.

Do not tap the red 'delete' icon.

EDIT the details as necessary.

To save the details and return to the Server List, tap SAVE (top right of the screen).

To discard the details and return to the return to the Server List, tap CANCEL (top left of the screen).

The delete icon will rotate 90 degrees and a delete button will appear next to the Server name.

Tap DELETE to remove the server from the server list
 
On the Server List page, tap DONE (top left of the screen) to exit editing mode.
 
       

Sharing and receiving servers
 
Share Server details to another device on the same network

Existing servers (individual or multiple selections) in the Server List can be shared to other supported devices on the same network. Supported devices that can handle Server List receiving are:

- NetVu ObserVer Free iOS App version 2.0.3 and above

- NetVu Android app version 1.0.6 and above

Other devices are discovered using MDNS and for this to work there are a number of requirements:

- The App supports sending and receiving site lists. The versions needed are listed above.

- All the devices are on the same local network.

- The local network supports MDNS.

From the Main Menu (Server List) tap SHARE (lower right of screen).
 
This will bring up the above Share options menu.

Tap NETWORK OPTION.

A list of supported devices will appear in a list.

Tap the NAME OF A DEVICE where the server details are to be sent.

This will now bring up the existing Server List.
 


Select the SERVER OR SERVERS that are to be shared from the list.

Tap SEND (top right of screen) to share the selected server or servers.

Tap the EMAIL option.

Tap SEND (top right of screen) to share the selected Server or Servers.

This will create an email with the selected server details attached.
 
FILL IN THE RECIPIENTS EMAIL ADDRESS and any other text, if needed.

Tap SEND to send the email.
 
       
       

Receive Server from another compatible device

The App can receive Existing Servers (individual or multiple selections) to be added to the Server List from other supported devices on the same network.

See 'Share existing Server/s to another compatible device' of this manual for instructions on sending existing servers (individual or multiple selections).
       
       
Receive servers  

Whist at the Main Menu only, the device is able to receive Existing Servers (individual or multiple selections).

On receiving a list of existing servers (individual or multiple selections), a message is displayed.

Tap OK to add the list of servers to the Server List.

Tap CANCEL to dismiss the message without adding the list of servers to the Server List.

Due to limitations in iOS, it is not currently possible to import Lists of Servers Shared via email.

Settings main menu  

Tap the SETTINGS app from the device home screen.

This will open up the Settings menu.

 
Select NETVU OBSERVER FREE APP which opens the Settings page.

VIDEO
Maintain aspect ratio
Maintains the aspect ratio of the video on the screen. If disabled, the video is stretched to fill as much of the screen as possible.

ON SCREEN DISPLAY (OSD)
These settings control the information is displayed on screen.

Camera Title
Display/hide the full camera name.

Date Time
Display/hide the date and time of the video.

Frames Per second (FPS)
Display/hide the FPS of the video.

LIVE STREAM
The following settings set the initial values used for Live Stream when a new Server is added.

Format
The requested format of the live stream (MPEG/JPEG etc.). Default will use the value set on the Server.

Resolution
The requested resolution of the live stream (High/Medium/Low etc). Default will use the value set on the Server.

Tx Mode
The requested Tx Mode of the live stream which controls the amount of meta data to be returned with the video. MIME(most)/Binary/Minimal(least). Default will use the value set on the Server.

TELEMETRY
Show Command
Display/hide the current Telemetry action.

LOGGING
To File
Enable /Disable the debug output to log to file on the device

RENDERING
Force 2D Rendering
Enable/Disable the video rendering to be done in the app, and not on the hardware of the device. Disabled by default.
